Letter: Parts of Interfaith letter ‘absolutely ridiculous’

To the editor:

I have to respond to the “Barrington Interfaith Partners” letter of Feb 9 giving reasons why the BLM flag should fly on the town’s flagpole. They wrote “There is no Marxist ideology on the (BLM) website. Neither is there any partisan political message.” The first sentence of the quote is just disingenuous while the second is nothing less than a total fabrication.

To see this just click on NEWS on blacklivesmatter.com and in a Nov 11, 2021 press release BLM praises the late Huey P. Newton and the Black Panthers Party (a Marxist-Leninist organization) he helped found. Also, BLM named its youth movement the BLM Youth Vanguard which is about as Marxist-Leninist as it gets and it is not credible they did not do it knowingly and purposefully.

The whopper though is the second sentence of the quote where they say “Neither is there any partisan political message.” Again, go to the NEWS section of their website and if the English language is to have any meaning all you’ll see are partisan political messages making the above quote absolutely ridiculous.

I would think a group having the temerity to cloak itself in religion would also have the humility to show a little more respect for the truth. It saddens me that the flagpole which historically has been a sign of unity in our community has been commandeered for partisan political purposes. No matter our political persuasion we should all be ashamed our community has let this happen.
