The first-ever New Year’s Day Dip in the Bay at Barrington Beach treated participants to a warmer-than-normal polar plunge on Sunday, Jan. 1.
The temperature hovered near 50 when people began arriving at Barrington Beach for the event, which was hosted by the Barrington Lion’s Club and the Barrington Business and Community Association.
While some polar plunges feature a single mass entrance into the water (usually followed quickly by a mass exit), the New Year’s Day Dip in the Bay in Barrington had more of a first-come, first-served approach. Small groups gathered on the shoreline, and then sporadically sprinted into the water.
The New Year’s Day Dip in the Bay served as a fund-raiser for a Lion’s Club scholarship and for the local non-profit, Tap-In.
