A Barrington resident and licensed doctor is facing a child molestation charge following an investigation that started in late January. 

Police arrested Barrington’s David S. Healey, 51, on Friday, March 15 at his home. Police said Healey was arraigned on a one count criminal complaint, first degree child molestation. Police said the victim was a seven-year-old child. 

Police said the child’s mother came into the station in late January and filed the complaint. According to a press release from the Barrington Police Department, the investigation was led by Barrington Police Detective Joshua Melo. The Rhode Island Attorney General’s Office, Aubin Center, Day One, and the Department of Children, Youth and Families assisted with this investigation. 

Police said they interviewed the suspect, and also spoke with individuals who corroborated the information gathered during the investigation. 

“On March 14, 2024, Barrington Police presented an affidavit for an arrest warrant for David S. Healey at Sixth District Court, Providence. Based on the facts presented an arrest warrant was issued,” stated the press release. “On March 15, 2024, Barrington Police apprehended David S. Healey at his residence and was subsequently presented in Providence District Court.”

Police said Healey is a licensed medical doctor in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Police said Healey is listed as a general practitioner in Rhode Island, and as a pediatrician in Massachusetts. 

Currently, Healey is being held without bail with a series of conditions: No contact with the victim; surrender of passport; surrender of firearm; and no contact with minors. 

Police said they have also notified the Rhode Island Department of Health.
