Police: Dead swan found at bird sanctuary in Barrington

Officials believe swan was attacked, not shot

Posted

A person called Barrington Police at about noon on Feb. 14 after finding a dead swan at the Osamequin Bird Sanctuary off the Wampanoag Trail.

The caller told police it appeared that the bird had been shot. Police responded to the scene and also contacted officials from the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

Police said DEM had found a dead swan in Warwick recently, and it appeared to have died the same way — DEM believes the swans were sick and then had been attacked by coyotes, possibly.
