Posted

The field of candidates in Barrington shrunk on Tuesday night, Sept. 13.

The list of three Democrats hoping to run for the Barrington Town Council in the general election was cut to two. Kate Berard and Braxton Medlin were the top two vote-getters, while Tony Arico finished in third.

Berard received the most votes, at 1,984, or 48 percent of the total votes.

“I think a commitment to democratic values coupled with respectful and thoughtful participation in town helped to encourage voter support,” Berard wrote in an email to the Barrington Times.

“I am humbled by the turn out and grateful for the continued opportunity to earn a position on the town council.”

Medlin finished with 1,608 votes (38.9 percent) and Arico received 545 votes (13.2 percent).

In the Democratic primary for RI Senate, District 32 (East Providence, Barrington, Bristol), Pam Lauria defeated Susannah Holloway. Lauria received 3,011 votes, while Holloway tallied 1,020.
