Polling locations have been combined; schools proposing $250 million construction bond

Posted

Voters in Barrington will decide on two key issues today, Tuesday, Nov. 7 — whether to approve a $250 million school construction bond, and who should fill the Congressional District 1 seat.

Voters should understand that polling locations in Barrington have been combined, as officials anticipate lower turnout.

There will be three polling locations in Barrington:

• Barrington High School (polling location for Precincts 101 and  106) — If you usually vote at Barrington High School or Town Hall, your polling place will be Barrington High School.

• Barrington Middle School (polling location for Precincts 102 and 103) — If you usually vote at Barrington Middle School or Nayatt School, your polling place will be Barrington Middle School.

• Hampden Meadows School (polling location for Precincts 104 and 105) — If you usually vote at Hampden Meadows School or Sowams School, your polling place will be Hampden Meadows School.

• Please note, Nayatt School, Sowams School, and the Town Hall will not be used as polling places.

Construction bond details

The school construction/improvements bond, if approved, will allow the district to pursue “Option 5.” That plan calls for an addition and targeted renovations at Barrington High School, as well as renovations and additions at Sowams, Primrose Hill, and Nayatt schools.

Option 5 consolidates Barrington’s elementary schools to three PreK to Grade 5 neighborhood schools. It also reduces the number of building transitions for students, expands learning space at all the schools (except for Barrington Middle School), and provides a twenty-first century learning environment that fosters collaboration and enhanced teaching and learning opportunities.

“This plan reflects an investment in both Barrington’s educational infrastructure and the community’s educational future,” stated a press release from the district.

CD1 seat

There are two candidates listed on the ballot for Congressional District 1: Democrat Gabe Amo and Republican Gerry Leonard. There is also a space for write-in candidates.
