Letter: Wacky alternative to crop cannons — they could work?

Crop cannons are better than pesticides or bird poisonings, but has any farmer tried using those wacky inflatable tube men to scare off the birds? If you Google them, there are actually scarecrow versions. They certainly creep me out when I see them on car lots. They appear to be relatively silent and might even be able to run on small solar panels.
