“Mayflower Wind created this resource so people can learn about how an offshore wind project comes together, and the clean energy and economic benefits these projects provide,” said Dugan Becker, community liaison officer for Mayflower Wind. “The information is diverse, digestible and can be accessed at any time.”
After entering the lobby, visitors can navigate through several rooms including, The Power of Offshore Wind, A Strong Economic Catalyst, Protecting People and the Environment, and Offshore to Onshore Connections.
Becker noted that as the project progresses, the details in the various rooms will be updated. “We encourage people to visit often, especially as the permitting phase progresses and details of the project become firm,” he said.
Mayflower Wind, a 50/50 joint venture between Shell New Energies US LLC and Ocean Winds North America, is developing an offshore wind lease area with the potential to supply 2,400 megawatts of low-cost clean energy to electricity customers in New England. Mayflower Wind says it’s committed to zero harm, innovation, and industry development, and investing in local communities.
Mayflower will have a “pre-application” hearing before the R.I. Energy Facilities Siting Board on its plan to “construct major energy facilities in Portsmouth” on Thursday, Aug. 18. The meeting, which starts at 9:30 a.m. at the Public Utilities Commission office building in Warwick, will not be open to public comment, although comment will be allowed at later hearings. The Town of Portsmouth has filed a notice of intervention in the application process.
Mayflower Wind presented its plan to the Portsmouth Town Council on Tuesday, Aug, 9, during an informational session. It has also scheduled a one-hour virtual forum on Tuesday, Aug. 16, which will include a walk-through of its proposed intermediate cable crossing in Portsmouth, as well as an overview of the Mayflower Wind SouthCoast project.
