PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School’s boys’ soccer team came up just short against Barrington on Saturday, falling 3-2 in a matchup of two of the state’s top teams.

The loss was the second straight for the Patriots, who fell to 3-2 on the season. Barrington also improved to 3-2 and has won 10 of its past 13 games dating back to last season.

On Monday night at home, the Patriots played to a 1-1 against Tiverton.

Portsmouth was scheduled to host Cranston West at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 16, after The Portsmouth Times’ deadline. The Patriots return home Monday, Sept. 21, to face South Kingstown at 7 p.m., then travel to East Providence for a 6:30 p.m. game Thursday, Sept. 24, at EPHS Stadium.

Portsmouth hosts North Kingstown at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, before visiting Cumberland at Tucker Field at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 30. The Patriots then travel to Tuckertown Park to face South Kingstown at 4:15 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
