Portsmouth loses lead and game to Barrington, 66-59
Patriots were up at halftime, 36-28
PORTSMOUTH — The Portsmouth High School boys’ basketball team came close to handing Barrington only its second loss of the season, but in the end it was not to be.
The Patriots enjoyed a 36-28 halftime lead and were in front for most of the game Thursday night at home, but the Eagles came storming back to tie things up in the fourth quarter. The score remained knotted with under two minutes left before Barrington closed the door.
It was the Patriots’ first home loss of the season.
The Eagles’ Nick Scandura was the high scorer, dropping in 31 points. Barrington’s Matt Raffa added another 18 points.
Barrington improved its record to 12-1 in Division I and 16-1 overall, while Portsmouth dropped to 8-6 in the division and 10-6 overall.

The Patriots’ next game is at home against Cumberland High at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 7. They’ll host Bishop Hendricken at 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 9, before traveling to La Salle Academy for a 2:45 p.m. matchup on Sunday, Feb. 11.
The regular season ends with a road game against Cranston East at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13.
