A Tiverton man will serve five years in prison for killing a Lakeville man while driving under the influence of fentanyl and cocaine two and a half years ago.
Alexander Farias, 30, of Tiverton, was convicted of manslaughter while operating under the influence, possession of class A, C, and E drugs, and unlawful possession of a large-capacity feeding device, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.
Farias was driving south on Route 24 in Fall River on June 8, 2021, when he lost control of his car, spun into the median and over onto the northbound side of the highway. There, he collided with a car driven by James Dumas, 35, of Lakeville. Dumas later died of his injuries.
"This was a terrible tragedy caused by the defendant because he was high on cocaine and fentanyl," District Attorney Thomas Quinn said. "He had no business driving that night, and his reckless decision took the life of an innocent person."
