Westport is mourning the loss of a well-known resident killed in a motorcycle accident on Route 24 Sunday evening.

Michael Lees, 27, the owner of Lees Landscaping and Excavation LLC, died Sunday evening after being thrown off his Harley Davidson motorcycle. Preliminary investigation revealed Lees was was northbound in the area of Exit 4, traveling in the low speed lane when his motorcycle suddenly left the lane of travel. Lees appears to have lost control of the motorcycle as he changed lanes.

Though it is unclear whether he was wearing a helmet, a witness who called 911 told police he was bleeding from the head and had no pulse.

Rescue crews took Lees to St. Anne’s Hospital, and he was later pronounced deceased at Rhode Island Hospital after transport there.

Tiverton detectives and members of the Accident Reconstruction Team responded to the scene. At this time, the accident remains under investigation. If you have any information about this accident please contact Sergeant Stephen Parrillo (sparrillo@tivertonpoliceri.com) or Ptlw. Nicole Beauvais (nbeauvais@tivertonpoliceri.com).
