Spending millions of dollars to build a rotary at Tickle Road, Robert Street and Route 177 defies logic and common sense.
Said intersection is located at the center of a two-mile stretch with a high-speed limit of 50 miles per hour. Since when does lowering the speed limit by 10mph (40mph) not slow down traffic? This is the answer to the speed problem. Moving utility poles, filling in wetlands, and building sidewalks is wasting $5 million. Placing new speed limit signs is less costly.
Westport, as a rural community, is vastly without sidewalks. Said intersection is in a bedroom section of Westport with nowhere to go. No one walks along this part of Route 177, as it is too dangerous.
The millions of dollars would be better spent to fix Massachusetts infrastructure.
I am really concerned about filling in the wetland on the northeast corner of the intersection. I am opposed to this idea.
Placing this rotary off center to the north will make it impossible for traffic traveling south to see eastbound traffic approaching the intersection because the wetlands is all woods.
Building this rotary to slow traffic, based on one accident that happened six years ago, is ludicrous.
I predict a rotary will cause more accidents.
Please fight against building the rotary project and do not fill in the wetlands. I am definitely opposed to this plan.
This rotary will also hamper emergency vehicles, school buses, tractor trailers and snow plows.
