A vacant storefront right next door to the town's only medical marijuana dispensary could one day be the site of Westport's second marijuana facility, if a plan that saw its first informal hearing before the planning board last week comes to fruition.

Brian Carney, a consultant working with Port Supply, Inc., appeared before the board with preliminary questions about a proposal to open a recreational adult use retail store at 260 State Road.

That property, a vacant storefront on five acres, is owned by John and Eileen McCook-Szymanski and is one lot over from Coastal Healing at 248 State Road. Coastal has not yet opened, but a representative said the dispensary would be open for business "soon" as a medical dispensary, and after three months in business will add recreational marijuana to its offerings.

Carney had few specifics about the plan for a new store at last Tuesday's meeting. But planning board members said he would need approvals from the planning board, a host community agreement from the select board, and approvals from other town and state agencies. He said he would research all the requirements and come back for a full-scale pre-development hearing before the board in the coming months.

There is little information online about Port Supply. However, Brian Carney Consulting LLC is a cannabis consulting firm that helps entrepreneurs, investors and operators navigate the legalities of starting and opening cannabis-related businesses, he said.

As for his relationship with Port Supply, "they might bring me on as an executive but that's yet to be discussed," said Carey, who owns a marijuana dispensary in Uxbridge and said he has helped several other dispensaries get off the ground elsewhere in Massachusetts.
