Tractor pulls, farm animals and chainsaw sculptures: The Westport Fair returns for its 67th year

The Westport Fair is celebrating its 67th anniversary. There will be tractor pulls, truck pulls, 4-H youth showmanship competitions of farm animals, live bands, magic shows, Toe Jam Puppet Band, Michael Higgins chainsaw sculptor, vegetable and flower exhibits, pet photo contest, arts and crafts, food vendors, a carnival by Rockwell Amusements and more. The annual chicken barbecue is Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the fair T-shirt booth or on Eventbrite. Tickets are $15 for adults and $8 for children. Gates open Wednesday and Thursday 6 to 10 p.m., Friday 6 to 11 p.m., Saturday 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
