The Westport girls' softball team slugged 14 hits as they pounded Atlantis Charter School 22-0 in a league home game on Wednesday afternoon. The win is the third in a row for the 6-4 Wildcats, who scored a whopping 57 runs during the three-game winning streak, while yielding just seven in that span.

“The ladies are playing well,” said Westport head coach John George. “They are hitting. Especially timely hitting.”

The Wildcats offense smashed a pair of homers, and belted four doubles in four innings of play. They scored six runs in the first inning and broke out for eleven more in the second for a 17-0 lead. Westport added two runs in the third and three more runs in the fourth.
Third hitter Sammy Bouchard bashed three extra base hits with a two-run homer and a pair of doubles and drove in four runs during the onslaught.

“Sammy has been my most consistent hitter all season,” Coach George said. “She leads the team with three homeruns and has good base running skills.”

Sophomore catcher Miranda Perry also smashed a two-run homer and singled. Lexi Guild and Molly Costa each collected a pair of hits and every hitter in the lineup had a hit and scored.
“ It has been great this year,” he said. “Hopefully we can finish strong and make the tournament."

The Wildcats received strong starting pitching from Guild, a sophomore, who stuck out eight while giving up just one hit, no walks and no runs in three innings of work. Bouchard came on in relief and struck out three and yielded no hits and a pair of walks in two innings.  The Westport defense caught three fly balls and made a pair of put outs behind their pitchers, defensively.

“Our pitchers are throwing strikes and keeping their walks way down,” Coach George said. “There are always some areas for improvement on the defensive side. We are making routine plays, but we need to fix some things and work on our focus during practice.”

Westport has seven league games and three non-league games left to play. The Wildcats hit the road next week, traveling to Wareham on Monday, 5/4, Holbrook on Wednesday, 5/6, and Avon on Friday 5/8.
