Westport firefighters keep blaze from spreading to home

Posted

Westport firefighters turned out in force to a structure fire in the south end of town Wednesday afternoon, and were able to contain it beforeit extended to a detached garage and nearby home. Firefighters arrived to find a shed fully engulfed, with fire extending into a nearby patch of woods.

They were able to contain the blaze, and determined that an outdoor burn that had been left unattended was the cause; they cautioned residents to always make sure outdoor fires are fully extinguished, and never leave them unattended.

Engines 1, 3, 4 cars 1 and 2, and off duty and on-call firefighters responded to the blaze, and Westport police provided traffic control.
