Westport kicks off the holiday season Sunday

Posted

Westport's holiday season officially begins late Sunday afternoon, when the Westport Recreation Department and Westport Land Conservation Trust join at the trust's home base, Westport Woods, at 573 Adamsville Road to light the holiday tree and make merry.

The  “Holiday Tree Lighting” event on Sunday, December 4 from 3 to 5 pm. This will take place outside at Westport Woods, 573 Adamsville Rd., Westport, MA, 02790.

The yearly celebration is free and will feature live holiday music from the Tiverton Choir, Westport Middle High School Pep Band and Double Bar Music. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there to interact with kids and pose for pictures. The Westport police and fire departments will greet families with treats. Kids can make an ornament and enjoy fun outdoor games. Wild Honey Café will have a booth selling hot chocolate, coffee and cookies, and the experience will conclude with the lighting of the tree. This is a great event for anyone who wants to get into the holiday spirit!

Though free, pre-registration is encouraged so organizers know how many people to expect. You can register at www.westportrec.com. There will be no rain date for this event so if there is inclement weather it will be canceled and those who pre-registered will be notified. As of Tuesday, though, the forecast for Sunday was clear skies.
