Westport police officer injured in early morning collision Sunday

Posted

A Westport police officer was injured when his parked cruiser was struck from behind by a car driven by an 18-year-old Somerset resident early Sunday morning, Feb. 5.

The unnamed officer had parked the cruiser in the breakdown lane of State Road, near Route 88, and its emergency lights were on at the time of the crash. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage.

The Westport officer was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital for non-life threatening injuries, and the other driver refused medical attention. That driver was summonsed for a marked lanes violation, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, being a minor in possession of liquor, and for using an electronic device while operating a motor vehicle.
