Warren police logs: Owl freed from driving range net

Tuesday, August 9
The fire department went out to Campbell Street at 1:22 a.m. for a report of yard waste bags on fire. About 40 minutes later, they were called to Haile Street for a similar call — a bag of yard waste afire.
An injured opossum found on Bridge Street was given to a wildlife rehabilitator at the Warren Animal Hospital.
Police got a complaint about a man who may have been under the influence of drugs or alcohol, on Market Street. The caller said he was walking in and out of the road.
A Child Street woman came in to police headquarters to report that someone had stolen money from her.
A Vernon Street man complained to police after his fence sustained damage from a neighbor’s car.
A Homestead Avenue man reported a woman in his driveway, yelling profanities at him.
Wednesday, August 10
The animal control officer went out to Hanley Lane to check on the well-being of goats. There turned out to be no problem.
A Metacom Avenue man reported receiving harassing calls.
A woman reported that her ex-boyfriend called her at work; it was a violation of a court order, she said.
Thursday, August 11
An owl became stuck in a net at the Swift Results golf driving range on Market Street. The DPW responded with a bucket truck and the animal control officer was able to free the owl.
Police were called to Luther Street for an unruly boy; it turned out to be a disagreement among siblings.
Pamela A. Laurie, 23, of 19 Sisson St., Apt. 1, was arrested on a Sixth Division District Court bench warrant, after police got a call about a child custody issue at her home.
Friday, August 12
Karen Pezzullo
, 38, of Bristol, was charged with violating a restraining order.
Bryan G. Machado, 32, of 5 Hanley Lane, was picked up on a warrant for violation of a no contact order.
Called to Fern Drive for a report of a man going through recycling bins, police instead found an unconscious intoxicated man. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital.
A salon owner on Market Street reported receiving harassing calls from a customer.
Police were called out to Martin Street for a dispute between neighbors.
Saturday, August 13
A Church Street woman called police after she said someone left a threatening note in a planter outside her home.
A Manning Street woman told police that someone wrote a message on her car some time during the night.
Michael P. Harvey, 46, of 325 Child St., Apt. 11, was charged with simple assault or battery and disorderly conduct, after police executed an arrest warrant on Arlington Avenue just before noon.
Two boys called police to report that an older man called them names near Kickemuit Middle School.
A Franklin Street woman reported receiving harassing and threatening e-mails from her boyfriend’s ex.
A caller who parked his car in the municipal lot on Joyce Street complained that a neighbor urinated on his car. Police had a look but found no obvious signs of damage to the car.
Sunday, August 14
A caller reported a shed fire on Davis Street just after 1 a.m. Fire crews found the shed fully involved, and were able to contain it. Meanwhile, police took one individual to the ration to take a statement. There was no word on any arrest, though the incident was deemed a possible arson.
A motorcyclist was injured when a car pulling out of the McDonalds parking lot on Metacom Avenue struck him as he traveled north.
A Union Street man complained that his girlfriend had his keys and wouldn’t give them back. Officers who checked it out reported that the man was drunk.
Timothy E. Smith, 38, of 20 Union St., second floor, was charged with domestic disorderly conduct and domestic vandalism, after police were called to Union Street for an argument.
A man visiting at the Pete Sepe Pavilion on Asylum Road told police that someone stole his motorcycle.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far.
