The 11th Hour Racing Team had their boat severely damaged after being involved with a collision with the GUYOT Environnement team shortly after embarking during the final leg of the 2023 Ocean Race in The Netherlands.
According to a Facebook post from the Ocean Race's official account, it appeared that the Guyot team failed to give adequate clearance to 11th Hour Racing as it initiated a turn and subsequently crashed into the port side aft of the vessel, leaving a large hole and necessitating both teams to return to the harbor and suspend their participation in the final leg of the race, which goes from The Hague to Genova, Italy.
"There is an enormous impact on what this could mean for the race," said Eurosport commentator Niall Myant-Best as broadcast on the Facebook post.
At the time of embarking on the leg, 11th Hour Racing had been in first place position after winning three consecutive legs. There have been no reports that any sailors were injured as a result of the collision.
