Officials at Barrington High School are investigating an incident that occurred during a girls lacrosse game Friday night, May 20.

BHS Director of Athletics George Finn said officials were alerted to a spectator or multiple spectators making inappropriate remarks during the game. Finn said the investigation was ongoing and could not offer further comments, only to say that Barrington High School is working hard to get to the bottom of the situation.

“We don’t take anything like this lightly,” Finn said. “We are very serious about good sportsmanship at Barrington High School. We are very serious about honoring our opponents.”

Finn said the Barrington High School girls lacrosse team was celebrating its senior night last week. The Eagles, 10-1 in Division I rankings were hosting 5-4 Wheeler School. Barrington rolled to a 20-5 victory over the Warriors.

The Barrington Times reached out to Rhode Island Interscholastic League Executive Director Michael Lunney for a comment about the situation. Lunney would only say that Barrington High School has reported to his office that they are investigating concerns about spectator behavior from Friday night’s game.

The Barrington High School lacrosse teams will compete in first round playoff games this week.
