A Barrington man is an instant millionaire after winning a cool $4 million on a scratch ticket his father bought for him at a Westport deli late last month.

Steven Richard was given the winning “$4,000,000 Bonus Bucks” $10 ticket from his father, who regularly gifts them when they get together for breakfast, on Friday, March 29.

Richard initially had a hard time believing he’d won $4 million, and scanned the ticket into the Mass Lottery’s app to be sure. When it was confirmed, he called his wife and father.

Though he won $4 million, Richard won’t see that much after choosing the one-time cash payment option of $2.6 million before taxes.

The Westport store where the ticket was purchased, Star Country Store and Deli, will receive a $40,000 bonus from Mass Lottery.
