The owners of a dog that crashed through a glass door at a neighbor’s house and forced that family to retreat into a bedroom will not be cited by police.
Barrington Police Chief Michael Correia said the dog did not have a history of being aggressive. He said police had not been called to the house for any prior incidents involving the dog.
According to police, the dog escaped from its own yard at about 8:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 2, and tried to get into a neighbor’s home.
Police said the dog — a pitbull mix — had blood on its mouth and was barking at the residents. Police said it was acting very aggressively. Police said the dog crashed through a glass door and the residents retreated into a bedroom and called the police department. A short time later, officers arrived on scene, entered the home, and shot and killed the dog.
The dog’s aggressive behavior prompted police to have the deceased animal tested for rabies. On Monday, July 15, Chief Correia said police were still awaiting the test results.
