The field of candidates has shifted a bit, following the deadline to submit endorsement signatures.

According to Barrington Town Clerk Merrie DeSisto, all but one of the candidates gathered the required signatures. DeSisto said that current Barrington School Committee Chairman Patrick McCrann has withdrawn from the race.

McCrann had gone back-and-forth on whether he would run for re-election. The six-year veteran of the School Committee initially said he was not going to run, but then shifted gears and filed his declaration papers. At that time, McCrann said his decision to file was based on an apparent lack of candidates for the three open School Committee seats.

“With 24 hours to go to the deadline, only one person had filed papers. I was concerned that ‘anyone who filled the form’ would be on the ballot, which could be yet another uncontested election — our educational community loses in that scenario,” McCrann wrote to the Barrington Times. 

When the filing date passed, more people had declared. The race for the School Committee seats will feature three Democrats and two Independents. Megan Douglas, Tim McNamara and Lisa Nelson are running as Democrats, while Karen Rasnick, and Elizabeth Singh are running as Independents.

Eight residents filed papers to run for the three open seats on the Barrington Town Council: Christopher Coleman, Derick Daley, Bryan Hoffman and Brian Hughes are running as Independents, while Anthony Arico, Liana Cassar, Jordan Jancosek and Kerry O’Neill are running as Democrats. 

Three sitting Councilors will not run for re-election: Carl Kustell, Rob Humm and Annelise Conway. 

The three legislators who represent Barrington in the Rhode Island General Assembly are all running for re-election. Two are running unopposed: Pam Lauria for the RI Senate District 32 seat and Jason Knight for the RI House District 67 seat. Republican Janine Wolf, a Barrington resident, is challenging incumbent Democrat Jennifer Boylan in the race for the RI House District 66 seat. 

Richard Staples, a Democrat, is running unopposed for re-election as Town Moderator.
