The Barrington Department of Public Works recently completed a magic trick of sorts — the DPW turned a baseball field into a softball field.
Town officials recently unveiled the new Bicknell Field. The infield grass was replaced with a flat stretch of dirt, and the elevated pitcher’s mound was eliminated. The new softball field will be a welcome addition, according to Barrington Little League President Aaron Aguiar.
“Barrington Little League is excited that Bicknell Field has been converted to a softball field in time for the start of our Spring 2024 season,” Aguiar said. “The addition of this new playing surface is much needed as we continue to see our softball program grow. We are very grateful to John Renquinha and the rest of the DPW crew for the hard work they put into this project as well as Town Council Vice President Rob Humm for helping to make this project a reality. We look forward to getting on the field as soon as possible.”
As of late last week, the league had already started scheduling Majors Division softball games on Bicknell Field.
Bicknell Field has also been used for the co-ed church softball league in town.
