BYSA reports 13 sets of field flags stolen

Why would anyone want to steal 52 soccer field flags?

That’s the question some Barrington Youth Soccer Association officials are pondering after the disappearance of more than a dozen sets of soccer field flags.

A BYSA official filed a report with Barrington Police on Wednesday, Sept. 27 after the 13th set — each set contains four flags — was stolen. The most recent theft occurred at a soccer field at Barrington Middle School, police said. Previous soccer flag thefts occurred at Bicknell Field, Chianese Field and St. Andrew’s Farm Field.

An official with the youth soccer association told police each set of four flags is worth $110 — that’s a total loss of nearly $1,500 for the Barrington Youth Soccer Association.

A league official checked to see if anyone near the soccer fields had video footage of the soccer flag thefts.

Police are investigating.
