Adventure race raises money for school PTO

Posted

Maybe it was the beautiful weather. Maybe it was the exciting course.

Or maybe it was the promise of a bubble bath that drew more than 1,000 people to the annual Hampden Meadows School Tough Tiger adventure race on Sunday.

The school’s campus was transformed — the front driveway was filled with food trucks, sponsor tents and raffle tables, while the stretch of grass along the southern side of the school offered a mud pit, a bubble station, a sprinkler, and the finish line.

Competitors young and old attacked the adventure race course in waves. The first group broke from the starting line shortly after noon. The competitors sprinted through the nearby neighborhood, climbed over a series of obstacles located on the Sowams School property, dashed back through the woods, over more obstacles near Kent Street pond, and finished through the mud pit, bubbles and lawn sprinkler.
