To the editor:

The voters of Barrington have spoken, and the $250 million school bond issue passed. Some 3,420 voters cast a ballot on this issue.

According to the Town Clerk’s office, Barrington has 14,134 registered voters. So where were those who did not vote on the largest bond issue this town has ever issued?

I realize that the town has changed, and that many young families are two career families and don't have the time, and maybe the interest in getting involved in town issues. But it's time for the next generation to step up and get involved. We older folks are aging out, and leave the work to the next generation.  

There are many important issues facing Barrington. The development of the Monastery property and that of Barrington College is facing us. The decisions being made could affect the quality of life for the residents of this town.

My family has lived in Town for 47 years. I figured that we have educated three generations of Barrington children, from our three sons to our five grandchildren. I have always supported school budgets and voted for the middle school bond issue. But I feel that this bond issue will significantly impact our property taxes, perhaps by thousands of dollars each year!

As Bob Dylan wrote 60 years ago, "The times they are a changing".

Please, pay attention to what is going on in this town.
