EAST PROVIDENCE — The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is informing motorists as part of it ongoing effort to alleviate the intense congestion on the Washington Bridge since the westbound closure late last year an East Providence exit will be shut down over night early this week.
To open up a third lane in each direction on the eastbound portion of the bridge, RIDOT will close Exit 1D (Warren Avenue) off Interstate 195 East for drainage work, Monday and Tuesday nights, March 25 and 26, from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Drivers are asked to follow the signed detour.
In addition, contractors are scheduled to remove asphalt, remove existing and replace temporary barrier, excavate and install more drainage on the East Providence side of the bridge to accommodate the lane changes.
