Town hall hours change; plenty of board openings

Nearly a dozen Barrington boards have vacancies

Posted

The hours at Barrington Town Hall have changed. More specifically, the town hall is closing an hour earlier on Mondays.

Following are the hours of operation at the town hall: Mondays from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; and Fridays from 8:30 a.m. to noon.

Town officials cited the reason for the change as there being very few visitors to the town hall between 7 and 8 p.m. on Monday nights. The town council approved the change at a meeting on Nov. 7, 2022.

Plenty of board openings

Nearly a dozen boards and commissions in town are looking for volunteers.

According to the town’s website, there are currently vacancies on the Board of Assessment Review, Board of Canvassers, Board of Library Trustees, Bristol County Water Authority, Building Board of Review, DEI (Diversity, Equity and Inclusion) Committee, Harbor Commission, Housing Board of Trustees, Juvenile Hearing Board, Planning Board, and Resilience and Energy Committee. Some of the boards have multiple vacancies, such as the Housing Board, which is looking to fill four openings, and the Planning Board, which has three openings.

Residents can download an application at www.barrington.ri.gov or stop by the town clerk’s office at the town hall, or pick one up at the library.
