Hope freshman Andrew McCarthy placed second in the state, losing to Peyton Ellis of Coventry by a 10-4 decision in the 113-pound championship at the Rhode Island wrestling state championships at the Providence Career and Technical Academy on Sunday. Ed Tanner, Bristol’s Principal Planner, at the State Street Reservoir project. The area to his left, will remain untouched as it’s the leading edge of a rookery for Back-crested night herons. The small stream to his right leads to a dam and the beginning of Tanyard Brook. Most of the rest of the site has been engineered for larger stormwater capacity, and to send cleaner water down Tanyard Brook and eventually into Bristol Harbor.

Students developed a device that both serves as a rearview mirror on a wheelchair or scooter, as well as a mobile command center for the vets’ phones, which can alert someone if they become immobile. more

Meet our staff
Jim McGaw

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
