Bristol blooms brighter with 4,000 daffodils on Hope Street

Posted

The hard work of over 30 volunteers, made possible collaboration from multiple local organizations, has bloomed into a beautiful beacon leading travelers into Bristol.

Last October, volunteers from North Farm and the Audubon Society planted 4,000 daffodil bulbs, donated by the Bristol Garden Club, from the “Welcome to Bristol” sign on Hope Street all the way to South Lane. Another 800 bulbs purchased by the North Farm Grounds Committee also line the roadways and interior spaces throughout North Farm.

North Farm Grounds Committee Chairperson Michael Gormley explained on Tuesday that it was quite the operation preparing the ground for the bulbs, and was grateful to the Bristol Garden Club, who lent the volunteers equipment in addition to the bulbs, and to the Audubon Society for their help in getting the project off the ground (or into the ground, as it were). Over the course of two weekends, volunteers planted the bulbs, which have now bloomed into golden brilliance.

“It was a daunting task to plant, but we got through it,” Gormley said. “The great thing is these will come back every year. These daffodils will multiply, the bulbs will increase over time and produce more flowers. You can look forward to them coming back in the future.”
