Residents should expect reduced service during the move

Posted

This Friday, June 3, the Department of Community Development, encompassing Planning, Zoning, Code Compliance, Historic, Building Inspection, and Redevelopment, will move its offices from 9 Court Street to the newly-refurbished space on the first floor of the former Reynolds School at 235 High Street.

“This move aligns with the town’s long-term goal of consolidating its municipal operations for cost efficiency and facilitating the reuse of the town’s historic decommissioned schools,” said Town Administrator Steven Contente. “We look forward to reopening this building to the public.”

After 10 years in the Court Street location, the Town Council approved the move last year. The town plans to sell 9 Court Street through a public sealed bid process, much like their recent sale of a town-owned property on Naomi Street. According to Contente, the Town hopes to execute that sale in June, as well as the sale of the former Oliver School on State Street, recently vacated by the Bristol Warren Regional School District administration.

The Department of Community Development will be closed during the move, and staff will have limited access to phone and computers during that time, though residents are encouraged to contact staff via email. Contact information for department staff can be found on the town website at www.bristolri.gov/community-development.

The department will reopen in its new location on Monday, June 6 at 8 a.m., and as before, will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
