Letter: Agreed that Rogers Library as a gem

Posted

To the editor:

I agree with the opinions of Mr. Craig Evans who wrote for the June 6, 2024, letters page about the "gem" of the Bristol library, but disagree that its improvements have been brought about "slowly."

The basis for today's improvements would be the decision of the Board of Trustees, Friends and the Library staff, led by the Head Librarian at the time, Joan Prescott, to greatly expand the size of the building. It was a long-time project, but as soon as space was available, I remember the expansion of programs beginning right away.

I now live in Minnesota but appreciate the exciting improvements I read about in The Bristol Phoenix today.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
