Letter: Of course the Catholic Church is conservative

To the editor:

As a parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, I wonder why it is thought that we need to defend Fr. Zinno, a holy and sacrificial priest.

There is but one holy, Catholic and apostolic Church, which is, of course, conservative. The Catholic Church is the Church of Jesus Christ, whose people follow and obey him. Jesus Christ was not born, crucified, and died on the cross to obey us.

His word is found in the New American Bible and further explained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church for your convenience that you may not be uninformed, but informed.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once.
