To the editor:
I’m writing in regard to the closing of all side streets in downtown Bristol at 8:00 a.m. I don’t think this was ever done before.
This morning I traveled down Thames Street, which was open at the time. I turned up Bradford Street to go home and when I reached the corner of Bradford and Hope it was already closed off. I spoke to a police officer who told me that Constitution Street was open. I went there and that street was also closed.
Now, in effect, I can’t get back home. I parked my car and waked home. I had to walk back to my car at 1:00 p.m. to get my car, and this was a huge inconvenience to many people who were not notified of the 8:00 a.m. closure.
As I recall, I didn’t see any signs posted or read anything in the Phoenix about this. I wonder who’s brilliant idea this was? This caused a big disruption in many peoples’ lives, especially those who had to wait until 1:00 p.m. to leave town, through no fault of their own.
