To the editor:

As Bob Dylan so eloquently wrote in his 1960's song , yes the times they surely are a'changing and sometimes not for the good.

Last week's Phoenix Speakout was filled with complaints about the absurd Bristol deer hunt that certainly fell on deaf ears at the Town Hall. Anyone surprised?

Once upon a time the Pokanoket tribe thanked their Maker for regularly sending them this bountiful manna.

Several years back the Bristol High School kids were being blindly taught by well meaning volunteers how to oil the goose eggs in their nests so they wouldn't hatch and spoil the golf course freeways.

Once upon a time (before the U.S. Indian genocide) the Cree Nation, the Ojibway and the Algonquins did elaborate ceremonies to thank their Maker for saving them from starvation by sending this heavenly honking  fast food after a long hard winter.

Once upon a time George Washington told his Dad that he could not tell a lie and that he had chopped down the family cherry tree. Now we have a daily dose of a past President telling daily lies on national TV and his fawning political party eggs him on and has almost given this treasonous charlatan a free pass to the highest position in their party.

Once upon a Time the Bristol Phoenix lamented the poor school kids whose parents could not afford to pay for school lunches and our impoverished School Boards who could not give their wards a free meal.

Now this same School Board is greasing the wheels to force the good taxpayers of Bristol and Warren to shoulder the costs of $200 million dollar education bond.

I think that we, the taxpayers are entitled to ask if it is our kids who need a better education, or is it our duly elected School Board representatives and complicit Town officials who need a ballot box lesson in civic responsibility.
