The Mt. Hope volleyball team outlasted North Smithfield and snatched a, 3-2 victory, during a Division II match in North Smithfield on Tuesday night. The win evened the team's record, at 3-3, with 13 matches left in the Fall season.
Mt. Hope went down early in the match, losing the first two sets, 23-25, and 15-25, before battling back to win the next two sets, 25-18 and 25-17, and take the tie breaker, 15-10.
Sophomore Mia Shaw came up big on offense and defense for the Huskies with, 8 aces, 4 kills, 9 assists, 13 digs and 17 service points.
Senior hitter, Mia Padula, smashed 8 kills during the match and added 2 blocks. Junior Sammy Malafronte tallied 5 aces, 3 kills, 8 assists, 4 digs and 19 service points.
The Huskies coached by Lisa Lunney and assistant, Lee Ann Shaw, consists of four seniors, Grace Stephenson, Anna Gardiner, Bianca Baldinelli and Mia Padula, three sophomores and seven juniors.
Last year the team gained the semifinals, playing in a shortened Fall II spring season.
Next up: The Huskies play at Ponaganset on Thursday, 9/30, and are back home on Tuesday, 10/4.
