Musicafe puts Mt. Hope musicians in the spotlight

Posted

Thursday, Jan. 26 was another wonderful Musicafe night at Mt. Hope High school. Held five times a year, Musicafe is a series of open mic nights that has been a highlight of the High School’s extracurricular calendar since 2017.

“It’s completely student-run,” said Choral Director David Lauria. “The students book the acts, organize rehearsals, line up accompanists, do all the advertising….one of my proudest accomplishments is that they can run this without me, and in fact they did just that, back in November, when I couldn’t be there.”

Musicafe has grown steadily in both size and attendance over the years, and last Thursday’s event had an audience of about 150 people. It is open to the public, and while there is no fee to attend, donations are welcome and go to the student activities fund. “It’s a really popular night — one of the best-attended extracurriculars at Mt. Hope,” said Lauria.

The next Musicafe will be held on Thursday, March 30 at 6:30 p.m. at the MHHS cafeteria.
