Storm causes flooding, power outages for thousands in Bristol County

Poppasquash Road in Bristol was inundated with flood water on Monday afternoon, and was closed off to all travel.
Over 2,000 people in Bristol County are without power amidst a strong storm surge that swept across the state on Monday, Dec. 18, bringing heavy rains and high winds that took down trees and brought flooding throughout the region.

In Bristol, as of 1:45 p.m., 846 people were without power throughout the town according to Rhode Island Energy's outage map, with various outages peppered throughout the downtown area. In Barrington, a reported 1,320 were without power, and 176 were without power in Warren.

In Bristol, Poppasquash Road was completely closed to traffic as it was totally overrun with water as of high tide around 12:00 p.m. this afternoon. Hope and Washington Streets (near Guiteras Elementary School) was also closed due to flooding. A tree also reportedly fell across Coggeshall Farm Road, bringing out crews to clear the debris.
