Both East Bay co-op high school hockey squads qualified for their respective 2024 postseason tournaments, the boys' Huskies outfit dropping an 8-2 decision in the preliminary round of the Division II playoffs.

The girls' entry, the Eagles, earned the sixth seed in the Interscholastic League state tournament by finishing with a 4-10-0 record.

East Bay faces third-seeded LaSalle, 11-3-1 in the regular season, in Game 1 of a best-of-three preliminary round series Friday night, March 1, at 6 p.m. at the Portsmouth Abbey rink. Game 2 is the next night at 7:40 at the Route 146 rink. The day, time and site for a third game, if necessary, is to be determined. The locals lost both of their in-season contests against the Rams, 9-1 and 7-0.

More boys' notes

Despite its 2-14-0 record the East Bay boys received a berth in the D-II tourney, where they dropped an 8-2 decision to seventh-seeded South Kingstown, which finished its regular season with an 8-6-2 record.

Ethan LaBollita, from Jackson Stringer, assisted on the first East Bay goal. East Providence's Logan Amaral later potted the other for the locals, short-handed, in the third period. The tally was the sixth of the season for the impressive Townie freshman forward.

The victory for Rebels was their third of the winter over the Huskies. SK, which previously beat East Bay by 8-0 and 8-3 scores, advances to the main draw of the D-II playoffs where they'll face the second-seeded Narragansett-Chariho in a best-of-three quarterfinal round series.

Amaral scored, from Jack Godbout, on the power play during the East Bay boys' aforementioned 8-3 loss to South Kingstown as the Huskies wrapped up their regular season with three games last week.

LaBollita and Quinn Frawley added the others. LaBollita, from Godbout, and Nathan Carpenter, from Stringer and Ben Browne, accounted for the East Bay tallies in a 13-2 setback to the West Warwick/Exeter-West Greenwich co-op.

Browne potted the only goal for the locals in their 10-1 loss to Portsmouth in their regular season finale.

Including the playoffs, Carpenter finished with a team-best seven goals for the Huskies. Amaral's six was good for second followed by Browne with five. LaBollita, a defenseman, chipped in four as did Gobout. Browne had a team-best eight assists with Godbout next with four.

As for the rest of the EPHS contingent, Lucas Saveory had two assists for the year while Ryan Travassos had two goals and an assist. Keigan Grant, injured for the better part of the season, finished with a goal and a helper.

More girls' notes

East Bay finished its regular season slate last week with a 10-0 loss to the South County co-op, which earned the second seed in the playoffs with an 11-1-2 record, and a 10-3 victory over the Warwick co-op.

Talented EPHS freshman Sydney Olson scored twice and assisted on another tally in the Eagles' win, as did teammate Arden Wilkes. Margaux Boneu also had two goals. Addyson Whittet had a goal and two helpers. Mia Phelps and Eleni Drosnios had one and one. Ruby Turgeon scored a goal and Cayden Macqueston had an assist.
