EPHS competition cheer squad starts season off strong
BRISTOL — The East Providence High School winter competition cheer team began its 2024 season last weekend by participating in an event hosted by Mt. Hope in Bristol where the Townies produced one of their strongest effort in recent years. EP's routine earned them a score of 70.6 on a scale of 100 points.
"Our season started off super late, but we were able to adjust and the girls and coaches have been working very hard to get where we are now," EPHS head coach Christiana Rebollo said of the Townies' efforts to date. Rebollo is assisted by Madison Campbell and Carissa Jandrositz.
The 2024 EPHS competition cheer team roster includes: Averielle Alston-Page, Keegan Anderson, Sherlyn Argueta, Sabrina DaSilva, Juliana DeJesus, Aguida DeSousa, Rozaria DosSantos, Kiany Duarte, Kyannah Ferreira, Nicole LaChapelle, Madison Slavic, Jordan Marlow, Kassidy Martins, Armani Miller, Jaylease Muzac, Evalyn Pacheco, Artemis Pacheco, Kelci Richards-Cabral, Haleigh Shirley, Alyssa Potrzeba and Samantha Zajac.
Seniors DeSousa, DosSantos, Martins and Potrzeba are the team captains.
The Townies returned to action this season after finishing as the runner-up to the Tolman/Shea (Pawtucket) co-op in the 2023 Division I championships. Tolman/Shea earned a score of 79.1 points, decisively bettering the rest including EPHS in second with a 68.8. North Kingstown was third with 67.7 and the Rogers/Middletown co-op fourth with 64.6.
The Townies are back in action Saturday afternoon, March 2, in the Rhode Island Cheerleading Coaches Association championship meet at LaSalle Academy in Providence.
East Providence then vies in the 2024 RIIL Competition Cheerleading State Championships Saturday, March 9, at noon in the Providence Career & Technical Academy Fieldhouse.
If they qualify, the Townies would close out their season in the 2024 New England Spirit Championships Saturday, March 16, at Worcester State University, Worcester, Mass., at 10:30 a.m.
