EAST PROVIDENCE — The inauguration ceremony for those re-elected and newly-elected East Providence officials took place in the Elmasian Auditorium at East Providence High School Tuesday evening, Jan. 3.

Bob DaSilva took the oath of office as the city's mayor, having been re-elected to a second four-year term at the November 2022 election. DaSilva remains as East Providence's only mayor since the city underwent a change in its governmental form in 2018.

Bob Rodericks, likewise, was re-elected to a second four-year term to serve on the Council in the At-Large seat. In addition, his new colleagues selected him to become the latest body president, replacing Bob Britto, who ran and won election for the State Senate District 18 seat last fall.

Frank Rego, Frank Fogarty and Rick Lawson — newly-elected Councilors for Wards 1, 3 and 4, respectively — were also sworn into office. Rego was tabbed by his peers as vice president.

Ward 2 Councilor Anna Sousa, re-elected for a third term in November, was absent from the proceedings.

As for the School Committee, second-term Ward 3 member Jenni Azanero was picked as new body chairwoman, replacing Joel Monteiro, who opted against running for a sixth, two-year term last cycle.

Jessica Beauchaine, about to begin her fifth term from Ward 4, was chosen as vice chair. Max Brandle, re-elected for a second time in Ward 2, remains as the committee clerk.

One new member and one returning member also took their oaths. Ryan Queenan begins his first term from Ward 1 while Anthony Ferreira, who served four committee terms previously as the Ward 2 member, was elected last fall to the At-Large seat vacated by the aforementioned Monteiro.

Also of note, former State Representative from District 65 in city and newly-seated Rhode Island Secretary of State Gregg Amore engaged the oaths for the elected officials.

U.S. Senator Sheldon Whitehouse was among the state, federal and municipal dignitaries in attendance, including Lt. Governor Sabina Mattos and Attorney General Peter Neronha.

And finally, former City Clerk and City Councilor Valerie Perry served as master of ceremonies.
