Gofundme started for Adamsville farmer, theft victim

A Barrington man has set up a gofundme page to help Nicole Wordell, an Adamsville herb farmer who has lost 300 plants — $1,500 worth — to theft this season.

Perez, was reading the Sakonnet Times online Tuesday morning when he heard about Wordell’s losses, and the possibility that she may not be able to run her farm stand next year as a result. It would be the stand's first seasonal absence in more than 20 years.

“I come from a place where an honor system stand woudn’t even be a thing,” he said. “I am very bothered by stories like these about small injustices that jeopardize the social contract of the communities we live in. "

He's not the only person to reach out. Tuesday morning, a Little Compton man stopped at Wordell's stand and told her he'd also like to start a similar fund-raiser, but the details on that have not been formalized. When they are, a link will be posted on the Sakonnet Times website.
