Heavy seas, Sakonnet Light

Posted

Last week's storm wreaked havoc up and down the coast, with exposed Little Compton and Westport coasts taking the worst of the beating. But Winter Storm Elliot also provided much beauty. Photographer Armin Kososki knew the surf would be high so he headed to Lloyd's Beach Friday to photograph the 138-year-old Sakonnet Light, capturing this incredible photo of surf spray enveloping the 66-foot beacon. For the photographers out there, he used a Canon R5 with a maxed out 100-500mm zoom lens, shot at 1/1,000th of a second. For more photos from Sakonnet Point and other areas around here, see his website.

A lifelong Portsmouth resident, Jim graduated from Portsmouth High School in 1982 and earned a journalism degree from the University of Rhode Island in 1986. He's worked two different stints at East Bay Newspapers, for a total of 18 years with the company so far. When not running all over town bringing you the news from Portsmouth, Jim listens to lots and lots and lots of music, watches obscure silent films from the '20s and usually has three books going at once. He also loves to cook crazy New Orleans dishes for his wife of 25 years, Michelle, and their two sons, Jake and Max.
