Josh Osborn scored 18 points to lead the Barrington unified basketball team past Portsmouth 50-48 during a league game at Barrington on Thursday afternoon. Jack Almond and Kelton Satine each scored 8 for the Eagles, Connor Sullivan netted 6, Ben Siegel scored 4, and Libby Fisher added 2.

“The season is going well,” said Barrington head coach Jacob Kapstein. “The kids have been playing great. They work well together. They share time and share opportunities. It’s really nice to see everyone working together for the common goal of making the team better.”

Barrington has a large team this season with 12 athletes and 8 partners.

Jack Almond, Virginia Barakos, Michael Barreto, Libby Fisher, Oona Murrin-Billingsley, Kelton Satine, Ben Siegel, Zach Silva, Pranoy Solomon, Connor Sullivan, Josh Osborn, Julia Berg, Eliana Carter, Olivia Morrissette, Riley Graveline, Daniel Lemos, Noah Kranowitz, Payton Murphy, Zach Berlinsky and AJ DiOrio.

“Making rotations is the fun part of it,” he said. “But it’s great of the kids. They only get to play two times a game and for them to be cheering each other on with this limited time, is outstanding to see.”

Portsmouth's Silva scores 27 in Patriots loss to Eagles

Alex Silva scored a game high 27 points as the Portsmouth unified basketball team fell to Barrington 50-48 during a league game at Barrington on Thursday afternoon. Brayden Roderiques scored 10 points, Aaron August and Curtis Sanders each netted 4.

“Portsmouth played outstanding today,” said Barrington head coach Jacob Kapstein. “They are very well coached and they have a couple of really good players. And their partners did a great job of sharing the ball and giving their athletes opportunities which is the whole point of this.”

“We are having a blast,” said Portsmouth head coach Mark Molicone. “They are learning a lot and having fun. We just had seven kids today, a few missed out, but it’s been fun. Alex and Brayden like to shoot from the outside. We were missing Will Sullivan today he is the senior captain. He likes to shoot in close.”

The Patriots have just six athletes and four partners.

Mackenzie Tripp, Brayden Roderiques, Chase Fanning, Owen Harrop, Alex Silva, Will Sullivan, Aaron August, Lance Nordhill, Trevor Doherty and Curtis Sanders make up the Portsmouth squad.

“It’s about the fun,” said Coach Molicone. “We had a good time and they showed good sportsmanship.”
