An Eagle Court of Honor for Barrington Boy Scouts Troop 2 took place inside the town hall council chambers following Memorial Day ceremonies. This year, five Scouts from Troop 2 earned the rank of Eagle Scout.

Jordan Brin

• Best Scout memory: My first time canoeing which was on the Buffalo River.

• Most challenging Scout experience: Learning how to be a proper senior patrol leader with my troop in Tennessee

• Favorite camp meal: S'mores

• Favorite merit badge: First Aid

• Eagle Scout service project: Renovation of roof and farm shed at Grandfather's Farm in Barrington

• Out-of-Troop activities/interests: Marching band, cross-country and working at Domino's Pizza

• Future Plans: Basic and advanced infantry training this summer, and then off to college to study education.

• Jordan, a senior at Woodstock Academy in Connecticut, joined Troop 2 as a Life Scout expatriate of Tennessee, south of the Mason-Dixon line. He has been quartermaster and Troop Guide over the last 18 months where he helped Dr. Dubel in the inventory of troop equipment and reconfiguration of troop cargo trailer space now housing all the troop's gear. Jordan was an inspiration to many scouts as he gave an impassioned talk about personal family experience with substance abuse. He has enlisted as a member in the Army National Guard, and he and his parent now make their home in Woodstock, Conn.

Owen Voigt

• Best Scout memory: White Water Rafting on the Kennebec River at Camp Moxie, Maine

• Most challenging Scout experience: Summiting Mt. Washington in winter alpine conditions

• Favorite camp meal: Philmont dehydrated spaghetti and meatballs

• Favorite merit badge: Motorboating

• Eagle Scout service project: Deforestation and field restoration at Pic-Wil Nature Preserve

• Extra-curricular activities/interests: Boating at Barrington Yacht Club, Providence Tennis Academy

• Future plans: To attend a distinguished undergraduate university and graduate with an as-of-yet-to-be-determined degree

• Owen, a Barrington High School freshman honor roll student, has lived his entire life in Barrington. He has been a Boy Scout for four years, and was a Cub Scout and Webelo (earning the Arrow of Light) for 5 years prior to his becoming a Boy Scout. Owen has been senior patrol leader for the last year and was a patrol leader in the year prior. He is an avid tennis player, playing number 1 singles on the BHS varsity tennis team. Owen was a member of the Philmont 2016 trek and is slated to be a trail crew member for the Philmont 2018 adventure. His older brother, 2Lt. Cam Voigt USA, is also an Eagle Scout from Troop 2, and Owen is close to him and his two sisters, Molly and Abby. Owen's mother and father, Nancy and Greg, have helped the troop in various ways over the last four years.

Clement J. Hilty

• Best Scout memory: Block Island 2013

• Most challenging Scout experience: Philmont 2016

• Extra-curricular activities/interests: STAT team member at BHS, cycling, distance running, kayaking

• C.J., a Barrington High School freshman honor roll student, has lived in Barrington throughout his childhood and early adulthood. He has been a Boy Scout for four years and was a Cub Scout and Webelo (earning the Arrow of Light) for 5 years prior to becoming a Boy Scout. CJ's work as Troop scribe has been invaluable to the troop in chronicling meetings and disseminating information to the membership. He has stepped up to lead a number of campouts as senior scout and is an active outdoorsman — having joined the troop's Philmont trek in 2016 and paddled the rapids of the Colorado River with his family. His parents, Dr. Mark Hilty and Dr. Maryann Noris, have served on the troop committee and been Merit Badge Counselors for First Aid and Personal Fitness merit badges. Mark has been an assistant scoutmaster for 5 years and was the lead advisor for the Philmont trek of Aug. 2016. CJ's sister, Katie, is also a member of the nationally-recognized Lifesmarts Team from BHS.

Ian Vaughan

• Most challenging Scout experience: Balancing rank advancement and campouts with schoolwork and extracurricular activities

• Favorite camp meal: Jiffy Pop and S'mores

• Favorite merit badge: Citizenship in the World ("because of the insight it gave me on how to be a better world citizen.")

• Eagle Scout service project: Forestry management project in Pic-Wil Preserve that provided environmental relief for a species of native field bird – the Purple Martin – and returned the forest line to its historical state.

• Extracurricular activities/interests: CIT at Camp Fuller, acting in community stage productions

• Future plans: I'd like to go into a career in medicine. Having personal experience with a chronic illness – that being diabetes – I'd like to help others who deal with issues that effect their lives like mine has effected my life. n Ian Vaughan, a Barrington High School sophomore honor roll student, has lived his entire life in Barrington. Ian has been a Boy Scout for 5 years and was a Cub Scout and Webelo (earning the Arrow of Light) for 5 years prior to becoming a Boy Scout. Ian now serves as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster and, last year, he served as assistant senior patrol leader where he and senior patrol leader Bobby Dubel were prime movers in the expansion of the troop's scout population. Ian's father, Brad, is an Eagle Scout and ably served as CubMaster for Nayatt Pack 1 over the last 4 years. Ian's younger brother, Colin, is a new scout in the troop and he plans on following Ian's footsteps on the path to Eagle. Ian has always been a motivational leader to younger scouts as he has an engaging manner. He has used his flair in community stage productions and in the BHS Choral Ensemble and is also an outstanding soccer player. Ian plans to play on the varsity soccer team at BHS next season. Ian is close to his mother Catherine — a teacher at the Wheeler School — and younger sister Eily and comes from a long line of Scout enthusiasts in the Vaughan family!

Evan Stabach

• Best Scout memory: My entrance ceremony into Troop 2 because a lot of my friends were joining too, and I remember that we came into a dark room blindfolded and we all lit candles as part of the ceremony.

• Most challenging experience: The night before I set out on my trek at Philmont. I was worried that I didn't have everything I needed, but I was able to successfully complete my trek with little to no difficulties.

• Favorite camp meal: Chili and Cornbread (cooked by Dr. Dubel)

• Favorite merit badge: First Aid

• Eagle Scout service project: Rebuilt a birdwatcher's platform at the Osamequin Nature Preserve.

• Out-of-Troop awards: Silver medal in the National Latin Exam

• Extracurricular activities/interests: Reading science fiction and fantasy books, drawing, writing short stories, fencing and design.

• Future plans: I plan on going into either engineering or writing, as both of these are personal interests.

• Evan, a Barrington High School sophomore honor roll student, has lived in Barrington throughout his childhood and early adulthood. He has been a Boy Scout for 5 years and was a Cub Scout & Webelo (earning the Arrow of Light) for 3 years prior to becoming a Boy Scout. Evan has been a patrol leader and Troop guide and has two younger brothers who are scouts, Colin and Finn, who plan to follow Evan's path to Eagle. John and Ginger — Evan's parents — have been active adult leaders in Troop 2 where John has been an Assistant Scoutmaster for 4 years. John and Ginger have graciously offered up their Vermont vacation home to host a number of troop campouts for which the troop is eternally grateful. Evan is an active Barrington Congregational Church member and confirmand, runs on the BHS cross-country team and plays tennis on the junior varsity BHS tennis team. He, along with his father, were members of the trail crew that distinguished themselves at Philmont in 2016.
