Letter: Aggregation plan doesn’t contain more green energy
To the editor:
I read with interest the Times article in which the town provides an energy program to compete with Rhode Island Energy. The story offers the town’s program as the “moral choice,” claiming it contains more green energy than RIE’s proposal. As someone with 30 years in the energy industry, the town’s claim is false.
The green energy sources in Southeast Rhode Island feed the grid. When you broker energy from the grid, you cannot select between green- and fossil-generated electricity. This means the energy delivered to customers will have the same green/fossil mix regardless of who sells it.
If the town wants to be in the energy business, it needs to represent the product accurately, so residents can make an informed decision.
