PORTSMOUTH — Cindy Silvia of Portsmouth was recently named the “Rhode Island Golf Association Women’s Golfer of the Year” at the RIGA Banquet at Kirkbrae Country Club in Lincoln.
Silvia is a member of Green Valley Country Club and she started playing golf in college. She was an all-state softball player at Portsmouth High School and went to play softball at Bryant College (now university).
It was during her time at Bryant when her softball coach, Bob Reall, got her interested in playing golf because of her natural athletic abilities.
She competed in nine RIGA events this season and finished in the top five in seven of them, including three first-place finishes to earn a total of 409 points. Silvia, known as a true competitor on the circuit, won the Shamble at Rhode Island Country Club, the Best Ball of 2 at Agawam Hunt, and the Best Ball of 2 at Shelter Harbor. This is her first RIGA Player of the Year award.
